Frequently Asked Questions
-
Laser cutting harnesses a high-powered laser beam to precisely slice through materials. The focused laser beam melts, burns, or vaporizes the material along a designated path, creating a clean and accurate cut. An assist gas (like oxygen or nitrogen) often aids in removing molten material and improving cut quality.
-
The maximum thickness a laser can cut depends on the laser's power and the material being cut. Generally, fiber lasers can cut steel up to 1 inch (25mm) thick. Other materials like wood or acrylic might have lower maximum thicknesses.
-
Laser cutting speed varies depending on factors like material type, thickness, laser power, and desired cut quality. It can range from a few inches per minute for thick metals to several feet per minute for thin materials like paper or fabric.
-
Laser cutting excels at intricate designs, precise cuts, and a wide range of materials. It's ideal for applications requiring high accuracy, complex shapes, or rapid prototyping. Industries like manufacturing, signage, automotive, and even fashion benefit from laser cutting.
-
Laser cutting offers exceptional accuracy, typically within 0.001 inches (0.025mm). This precision enables tight tolerances and intricate details, making it suitable for even the most demanding projects.
