Gwylim Johnstone – Owner

Gwylim Johnstone is an Australian mechanical engineer, machinist and prototyper who has specialized in creating custom solutions for iconic brands, international museums, and local artists. Over the years, Gwylim saw a growing need for instant quote laser cutting and bending services in the New York City area, and in 2023 launched Wombat NYC.

In his previous roles, Gwylim's work has spanned more than 15 years, ranging from feature films such as Mad Max: Fury Road to numerous kinetic artworks, with a common theme of creatively applying engineering principles throughout. He has worked with museums such as The Guggenheim, Bilbao and Hauser & Wirth, Zurich to design and install works for well known artists. He lives in Brooklyn, New York with his wife, Eliza.
